Strict rules are in place here, intended for serious gameplay. I’d even say these rules cater to connoisseurs of Barotrauma and its unique atmosphere. Trolls, griefers, casuals — they don’t last long, nor do those who can’t keep themselves in check or observe subordination and RP (role-play). The rest can have a blast, regardless of game experience, especially RP lovers. Of course, there are exceptions; some rounds are boring, alas (it also depends on the role chosen/assigned). You can chat in the game lobby and in this server’s Discord in general, but don’t get your hopes up for an atmosphere of equality and mutual respect. Moderators will often talk down to you, with disdain toward ordinary “sailors” and intolerance toward any hint of discussing the admins’ own mistakes or the project’s flaws. Questions will be answered evasively, full of ad hominem, strawmanning, and other dishonest communication tactics. In short, it’s better to open up to your friends; in a toxic environment like this, it’s best to limit yourself to phrases like “good morning, comrades” and “praise the administration for their work.” Just remember that such strictness, combined with military-themed RP, contributes to quality gameplay and deep immersion. Don’t try to remake the project and its people according to your own notions of fairness — just enjoy the game, ignoring the bias and arrogance.
