Tower Unite VR gets head and arm tracking as Arcade work resumes

Tower Unite’s VR dev build now tracks your head, hands, arms, and upper shoulders through motion controllers, and that animation is synced to other players. The milestone also clears the two input bugs that previously made VR unusable: unbound controller inputs and VR menu soft locks.

VR fixes and tracking

Beyond the input fixes, the update addresses several VR art issues:

  • First-person player model LODs no longer sit at very low quality
  • Xbox controller glyphs no longer display in VR
  • Broken wrists are fixed
  • Sprites no longer rotate oddly in VR
  • The VR pointer now draws correctly over menus and the world

With those blockers handled, the team moved to IK (inverse kinematics) support. Motion controllers now track your hands while the IK system matches your arms and wrists, and head and upper shoulders are tracked for full upper-body support. Networking for head and arm movement to other players is in place.

Some VR work remains on the VR support Trello card. The initial rollout is focused on Plaza and Condo, with game worlds coming later. Each game, even in Plaza, has unique controls that need adjustment or reworking for VR — bowling is called out specifically.

Why VR is taking time

Tower Unite runs on Unreal 4.22, a 2019 engine version. The team says an engine upgrade would be a massive effort that could break every custom system, and newer Unreal versions could break workshop maps because of major physics changes. With the current staff, that upgrade isn’t viable, so VR has to work on the older engine. The studio also says tracked motion controllers will let players express themselves more than before.

Arcade and cooking progress

Arcade work is rolling again after roadblocks and design problems. Gameplay programming and artwork are underway for the new baseball arcade cabinet, part of the phase 3 + arcade expansion. Unreleased Arcade ticket items are also a high priority for the next Arcade update.

Cooking is being worked on selectively while the small team creates more ingredient models/items and finishes recipes. No new cooking artwork is ready to show yet.

Item updates and new items

Existing item changes from the Summer Update changelog include:

  • Fixes for Skeletal Mesh Door desync issues
  • New variants for Cardboard Box, Soggy Cardboard Box, and Bowling Seats; canvas piles consolidated into one Canvas Pile item, with original versions unlisted from stores
  • Color-masking fixes for Mega Exodus
  • SFX and hold-distance adjustments for Shipping Crate, Plastic Barrel, and Industrial Barrel physics items
  • Hotbar Torch updates: volumetric light removed, improved SFX, repeated-lighting fix, and flame FX rotation fix

New items are also added in DIY, the Snackbar, Rob’s Imports, Central Circuit, and Sweet Suite — frozen treats, old-school tech, a canvas physics item, draping curtains, briefcases, and more.

New IO tool: Selector

The new Selector IO tool is a module with a list of Outputs you can cycle through or pick from directly. It works like the Random node, minus the randomness.

Tower Unite's Summer Update (1.1.5.0) adds curtains and a new afterparty store

Tower Unite's Summer Update (1.1.5.0), announced August 4, 2026, focuses primarily on item improvements and additions alongside a selection of bug fixes. Its showcase addition is the Anniversary Afterparty Store in Celebrations, where players can spend leftover Anniversary Coins after the event has ended.

Anniversary Afterparty Store

The store is open now in Celebrations. Unlike the active Anniversary store, it will not let players purchase Halloween or Holiday items with Anniversary Coins. Limited-time items—including the Commemorative Plate - Tenth Anniversary plate and the tri-yearly Party Crowns—remain in stock until the next Anniversary event starts next year.

New items by shop

The new-item lineup includes long-awaited additions, some not-so-long-awaited items, and backports from Elevator.

  • D.I.Y.: Canvas Physics, a Physics item with Canvas URL support, multiple shapes, sprite mode, and selectable impact SFX; no workshop item needed for a simple throwable spherical prop. Information Plaque, a unique Note item that displays its Title as a Comment when looked at. Draping Curtain (the highly requested animated curtain) and Draping Curtains (Double), Round Curtain and Round Curtains (Double), plus Static Curtain, a Canvas primitive with curtain-shaped Variants.
  • Condo IO: Selector, a module with a list of Outputs you can cycle through or make specific selections from—similar to the Random node without the Randomness.
  • Rob's Imports: Briefcase (Aluminum), Briefcase (Leather), Briefcase (Government), Clocktower Face.
  • Central Circuit: VCR (90s), Meeting Room CRT TV, AV Cart.
  • Sweet Suite: Cupped Candle, Basic Wooden Chair.
  • Snack Bar: Ice-Pop (Holdable), Rocket-Pop (Holdable), Shaved Ice (Holdable), Shaved Ice.

Item changes and improvements

  • General: New "Multi Mesh" tag for items with model-adjusting Variants; Skeletal Doors (Shutter, Garage Doors, etc.) support Open Range; empty Note items can no longer be read; Gridiron Football projectile triggers Trigger Volumes under the Physics filter; Wall Clock art pass; Hotbar Torch SFX improved.
  • Curtains: Art pass with flared bottoms and no mirrored patterns; two new patterns matching the Victorian furniture set's fabric; Canvas URL support.
  • Teleporters: Optional Fade transition with adjustable length and color; TeleportActivator IO input teleports the activator regardless of whether they're inside the volume.
  • Physics items: Increased hold distance for Shipping Crate (Physics), Plastic Barrel (Physics), and Industrial Barrel (Physics); impact SFX added to those plus Battery (Physics).
  • Cardboard Boxes: Open and Closed boxes art-passed with Variants and material selection (Blank, Shipping, Frozen, Dirty), sharing proportions across both items; Soggy Cardboard Box gained Variants.
  • Bowling Seats: Brighter coloring, an alternate square seat design, and modular-extension Variants for building benches.
  • Canvas Piles 2 & 3: Unlisted from stores and merged into Canvas Pile 1 as Variants; existing owners keep them, but they can no longer be purchased separately. More variants will be added to Canvas Pile in the future.

Bug fixes

  • Core/Condo: Billiards cue ball no longer flies up; bowling pin destruction improved; "I Can See My House From Here" viewfinder achievement fixed. Condo fixes include "Sky" surface materials selecting correctly with a WA material active, the White Tiles material regression (and replaced normal map), and Condo:Suite light bakes (blue light bleed near the back wall and sunlight through walls).
  • Items: Laser Beam "Matches Name" saves; Victorian Wardrobe IO events added; Vault Door Variant behavior fixed; New Year's String and Keyboard material regressions fixed; fire-based light On/Off SFX corrected; Unlimited Popcorn no longer visually holsters after one throw; Mega Exodus color masking fixed; Duper PartyCon Interactive System material fixed; Minigolf: Ramp Tool grass override fixed.
  • Hotbar Torch: No volumetric scatter from their light (fixing glare in condos with Sky Volume fog); only light once when held over fire; flame FX stay upright.

What's next

Work continues on Arcade Phase 3, focused on adding a new game to Arcade and re-arranging the layout to fit new games. VR development is also ongoing.
