SCUM August update opens TEC1 facilities and mutant bear hunts

SCUM's next Into the Wild update arrives Monday, August 24, opening abandoned underground TEC1 Research Facilities and adding mutant bears and Master Hunter quests to the hunt. The update also adds Heatless Cooking recipes and overhauls Food Effects to make preparing a proper meal more rewarding.

TEC1 Research Facilities

Hidden inside converted underground bunkers across the Island, TEC1 Research Facilities were once used to contain and study mutant wildlife. Entry requires a Research Facility Keycard. Once inside, a timed purge sequence begins—and you may not be the only prisoner there. Reach the heart of a facility to see what TEC1 has been keeping contained.

Mutant bears and Master Hunter quests

The Island's largest predator is about to become even more dangerous: mutant bears will appear at specific locations across the Island. Their arrival expands the Master Hunter questline with new challenges and exclusive rewards for experienced prisoners.

Complete the required quests to secure a Research Facility Keycard, or take your chances searching for one in the wild.

Cooking and Food Effects overhaul

New Heatless Cooking recipes let prisoners prepare meals such as salads and sandwiches without any equipment. The broader Food Effects overhaul means key nutrients at healthy levels can improve endurance, recovery from injuries, and resistance to sickness, while deficiencies have the opposite effect. Prepared and cooked meals also require less energy to digest than most other foods, making a meal worth preparing.

The full recipe list, Food Effects breakdown, and the update's balance changes, fixes, and quality-of-life improvements will be covered in the August Update notes.
