SCUM's Into the Wild update adds TEC1 facility and mutant bears

SCUM's Into the Wild August Update (build 1.3.3.0.144566) is live, sending prisoners into an abandoned underground TEC1 Research Facility, adding mutant bear hunts, a cooking overhaul, and Cloning Sickness. The Stalker Outfit Pack is also available now as a separate purchase.

TEC1 Research Facility

Deep beneath the Island, TEC1 once experimented on wildlife. Three converted bunker entrances each lead to a Facility with the same layout and challenge.

  • A Research Facility Keycard is required to enter. It is earned through certain Master Hunter quests or found as rare loot, works at any of the three locations, expires after limited time, and is consumed on use.
  • One Keycard is enough for a group; the entrance locks once a run begins and stays locked until the Facility resets.

Starting a run triggers a 10-minute purge and opens the first containment area door for 30 seconds. Anyone left behind when it closes is locked out. Survive the habitats, find an exit before the countdown ends, and escape with rare medical and scientific loot. Players can also activate an exit early, but it only stays open briefly.

Mutant bears inside do not flee, flank players, are drawn to careless gunfire, and change positions between runs. Facility loot spawns when the purge begins and refreshes every run, so groups with multiple Keycards can chain runs back to back.

Master Hunter quests get mutant bears

The Island's largest predator is now a Master Hunter target. Known mutant bear sightings have been added to the Hunters Grotto map, and the questline gains several Tier 3 hunts focused on mutant wildlife. Completing them earns a Research Facility Keycard and unlocks Apex Hunt, a Tier 4 quest to eliminate every mutant bear inside the Facility. Rewards include a weapon charm, mounted skull trophy, and Master Hunter headgear.

Cooking and nutrition overhaul

The cooking menu now has a Hands option for preparing salads, sandwiches, and other simple meals anywhere, without equipment. Hands-made meals count as cooked food for digestion but cannot go into overtime. The update adds 15 Heatless recipes, including salads such as Waldorf Salad, Fish Salad, and Improvised Salad, plus sandwiches like Tuna Sandwich, Cheese Sandwich, and Spon™ Sandwich.

All existing food and drink recipes except the four smoked recipes cook faster, with reductions of roughly 25% to 69% depending on recipe and Cooking skill. Cooking timers now show real-world time.

Digesting food also temporarily raises Energy Burn Rate, from 5% for cooked food up to 18% for canned and processed food. Raw meat, medications, and snowballs do not increase it. Raw meat and certain unprocessed foods can build Food Repulsion; filling the bar makes your prisoner vomit.

New nutrient buffs and debuffs now reward balanced diets:

  • Vigor/Lethargy — affects exhaustion gain and stamina loss.
  • Mending/Erosion — affects healing speed and bleeding resistance.
  • Resilience/Run Down — affects sickness resistance.
  • Stability/Instability — affects movement speed while limping.

Cloning Sickness

Respawning now applies Cloning Sickness every time, regardless of cause of death. It starts at C1 and increases in severity if you die again before fully recovering. At C1, health, energy, water, vitamins, and Fame Point gains are reduced by 10%; each severity adds another 10%, up to 40% at C4, with headaches and further performance penalties at higher tiers.

Recovery is automatic: C1 begins after 10 minutes and takes 5 minutes, while C4 begins after 30 minutes and takes 15 minutes. Phoenix Tears immediately start recovery, or cut remaining recovery time by 50% if already recovering. Cloning Sickness cannot recover while affected by Acute Radiation Sickness, Infection, or Sepsis.

It is active on Official Servers and enabled by default on private servers, where owners can toggle it.

Stalker Outfit Pack

The SCUM Stalker Outfit Pack is available now, adding a full outfit and a bone tomahawk.

Server settings and fixes

New server settings allow admins to control Cloning Sickness and Research Facility Keycard spawns: 4 Keycards by default, with up to 3 in Police Stations and 1 in Radiation Zones. Custom Zones can also block vehicle damage from explosions caused by unowned items.

The patch also brings a large fix pass across weapons, vehicles, UI, base building, audio, and world design. Highlights include increased SKS spawns, a further 50% reduction to Pressure Cooker Bomb damage against sentries, and fixes for weapon fire outside Combat Mode, safe-zone vehicle destruction exploits, blueprint progression exploits, and the raw pasta stomach-rupture bug.

Into the Wild continues in September.
