Plains of Pain v0.8.20.28 adds inventory locking, teases Warehouse
The QoL Update v0.8.20.28 is here for Plains of Pain, arriving just days after the v0.8.20 Major Update. It focuses on fixes, small improvements, and a couple of new quality-of-life features, with inventory locking as the main highlight.
Inventory locking
Players can now click the Lock icon on the right side of each inventory container to lock it. Locked inventories are ignored when transferring all items or filtered items between containers, and looted items will not be automatically placed into them. That gives much better control over backpacks, belts, Deathproof Pockets, and other containers. The devs also confirmed that an upcoming update will expand the system with the ability to lock individual items inside inventories.
Smarter melee survival behavior
Lowlifes and other melee units will now retreat from players or enemies who are actively firing loud firearms at them. The change is meant to make melee encounters feel more reactive and give those units a stronger sense of self-preservation when facing heavy gunfire.
Settlements 2.0 and the Warehouse
The update also comes with a clarification: the production system introduced in the recent Major Update is not the final form of the system. The current worker requirements, resource consumption, and hands-on settlement management are a foundation for the upcoming Settlements 2.0 layer, which the team says will reduce unnecessary micromanagement and make larger settlements easier to operate.
As a preview, the devs shared a "small unnecessary spoiler": a new settlement building called the Warehouse. Players will be able to store large amounts of materials there, while assigned workers handle distribution between settlement or player base production buildings. Workers will:
- Deliver required materials from the Warehouse to production buildings
- Collect finished production
- Return produced materials back to the Warehouse
The goal is to move settlements away from constantly carrying resources manually between every individual production building. The current production setup is the foundation; automation, deeper settlement management, and additional buildings will build on top of it.
The developers say adjustments and tweaks to the production system are already being prepared for the update after this one, and they ask players to keep testing and sending feedback.
