Soulmask Bone Bash update arrives October 22 with free skeleton storyline
Soulmask's first festival-themed DLC, Bone Bash, is scheduled for October 22. The update has three parts: a free festival storyline, a paid Día de Muertos-themed DLC, and newly opened themed Official Servers. The theme is Día de Muertos, summed up as: “Death is not the end. Being forgotten is.”
A free story turns Chieftains into skeletons
After the update, players log in as a walking skeleton—as if they have died exactly once. Awareness X explains that getting your body back means heading deep into a Barbarian camp in the rainforest, or the River Delta in Shifting Sands, and paying respects at the Marigold Altar. Alternatively, you could just die properly once; a person can’t die twice.
The camps are in starter areas, so they are quick to reach. Under the Altar’s influence, they have become a Land of the Dead: marigolds everywhere, towering painted skulls, and Barbarians reduced to bare bones yet still hard at work.
Paying respects at the Altar of the Dead permanently unlocks the skeleton look. Players can also dress their whole tribe as the dead—making those 24/7 work shifts make a little more sense.
Paid DLC adds Carved Stone, 43 decorations, and a party Mask
The Bone Bash DLC includes:
- Carved Stone building set, which lets players build a proper Aztec pyramid in their territory.
- Marigold Set with 43 Día de Muertos-themed decorations, including the Marigold Altar that summons ancestors to dance after revival, flower beds that spread into a sea of marigolds, and war drums that get Tribesmen partying.
- Several skeleton skins, an adorable Día de Muertos Black Panther saddle, and different little headpieces for each Tribesman type so players can still tell who’s who—and boss them around accurately—once everyone is bones.
- Homecoming Revelry Mask. It is purely recreational and provides no combat or stat advantages whatsoever. It pulls everyone nearby into the celebration anytime, anywhere, and every so often a new Tribesman drawn in by the festivities will join the tribe. Those recruits are not powerhouses, but one more dance partner is always welcome. Its Mimicry Mode opens a portal made of flowers that teleports Tribesmen out in the wild back home to join the party.
Controller overhaul and tutorial rework launch alongside
Controller support gets a major overhaul with a brand-new radial menu and UI adjustments, launching alongside Bone Bash. The changes may still have rough edges, and the team will keep adjusting based on feedback.
The new-player tutorial has been reworked from the ground up again. This round focuses on guidance for deploying Tribesmen as followers and for assigning and using Assignments.
Tribesman AI is also being reworked. Videos and save files of AI issues are being collected, and players are asked to send cases; the more cases sent, the more precisely Tribesman behavior can be reworked. The team believes the work won’t take long.
More details will be revealed over the next few days, with a “massive” community festival around Bone Bash and a 24/7 Factory of the Dead teased.
