Draconia adds sickness and sets European Dragon for August 31

The Draconia dev team broke its silence with a brief status update: the European Dragon is still on track for August 31, with final fixes and tweaks being made to get it ready by the end of the month.

Here's what else is in the works.

Sickness can now spread to players and AI

Player characters—and some AI—can get sick. Unsafe food and water sources have a small chance to infect players and apply long-lasting debuffs, which can be cured using various items. In some cases, players can contract diseases from enemies and then spread them back to enemies or other player characters.

This is an early version of the system. Future expansions will add more illness types and more complex cures that partially tie into the game's alchemy system.

First island gets a quality overhaul

Some old locations on the first island are receiving a quality pass to make terrain easier to navigate for flightless creatures, improve performance, and open up more areas for player dens.

Quest markers and interactive world assets

Quest givers will get quest markers in the near future, so new players can find quests without talking to every NPC in an area. The team has also started adding interactive level assets such as scroll piles and hay piles—some of which may hide a cheeky surprise.

A small teaser video of the coming updates is on the Youtube channel.

Draconia 0.5.4.28: 55 daily quests, new loot system

Patch 0.5.4.28 is now live for Draconia, bringing over 55 new daily quests, a overhauled loot system, and significant balance changes to enemies and harvestables. The update also adds new NPCs, items, and rare spawns.

Over 55 daily quests added

A large batch of daily quests has been introduced, with more types on the way. Non-contract quests no longer reward coins, and XP from quests has been rebalanced. Quest completion visual effects now differ slightly from acceptance effects.

Loot system overhaul

The entire loot system has been refactored for more randomization, with a slightly improved chance for rare drops. All harvestables now use this new system and always drop essence per interaction. The number of times a harvestable (carcasses, ore nodes, rock nodes, etc.) can be interacted with has been reduced.

New enemies and drops

Dragon turtles, crabs, and elementals can now drop loot upon death. New items and NPCs have been added, along with new rare enemy spawns and additional crab and spider spawn locations on the first island. Letticide and Kuarticide fragments, along with various crafting recipes, are now available.

Balance and drop adjustments

  • Dragon turtle enemy health has been reduced.
  • Azulite fragments now drop only from Azulite nodes.
  • Vitrolum nodes have a slightly reduced drop chance for Vitrolum but a small chance to drop Eldyallium.
  • Eldyallium nodes have a slightly reduced drop chance for Eldyallium but a small chance to drop Vitrolum.
  • Intact Kuarticide and Letticide crystal drop chances from their respective nodes have been greatly reduced.

Other updates and fixes

  • Wyvern camera position updated.
  • Clan hoard collision improved.
  • Smelling sweep method updated.
  • Textures for various Athyne level assets improved.
  • Ocean and lake rendering issues fixed.
  • Breath ability issues for non-Wyvern characters fixed.
