Forts spotlight: Tanya's Commander Mod Reloaded hits Workshop

This month's Forts Modder Showcase features General_Miau's Tanya's Commander Mod Reloaded (TCMR), available now on the Steam Workshop. The standalone project reworks commanders, adds a colourful technology system, improves sprites, and supports the High Seas and Firebird DLC natively — no extra compatibility mod needed.

What's in Reloaded

TCMR is the newest version of a mod series that began with Tanya's Mod, which General_Miau originally made to make mortars and rockets more viable in 4v4 matches. Reloaded keeps that large-battle focus while trying to stay balanced in smaller games. Returning arsenal includes the Flamethrower, Railgun, Nebelwerfer, Gatling gun and the mighty Atom Cannon, plus assorted materials and devices, all built around reworked commanders.

The new colourful technology system can look intimidating at first, but the creator says it becomes accessible after a few matches — and it's designed to allow more weapons down the line without making any technology overblown.

Why Reloaded?

The original Tanya's Mod grew messy as Forts' modding tools expanded, so Tanya's Commander Mod narrowed the focus to commanders and adopted the official sprite construction kit. Reloaded carries that forward: commanders are simpler but "awesomemified," many old and new weapons get better sprites, and High Seas plus the new Firebird DLC are fully supported without an extra mod. General_Miau also says he now prefers keeping things cleaner and simpler — some original interactions required too much effort for the average player.

The modder behind it

General_Miau, also known as General Tanya-chan, has been playing and modding Forts for about eight years and built the Ice Wall map. His mod name nods to Tanya Degurechaff from Youjo Senki, and his influences span military history, anime, sci-fi, ninjas, railguns and bouncy penguins. Balancing starts from vanilla weapon values as templates, then gets tuned by how weapons feel on attack and defense plus a lot of playtesting. Asked if other games shaped his design thinking: "I am really stubborn, so… probably not? XD" He also notes Forts' Workshop has over 4,000 mods — and that he doesn't know how to code.

For modders

This first Modder Showcase round is a hand-picked selection of high-impact community mods. Future spots will open to modders who have earned the Modder Medal, answer a Q&A and collaborate in good faith, and provide gifs, clips or images of their work.

You can grab Tanya's Commander Mod Reloaded, check out the earlier Tanya's Mod and Tanya's Commander Mod, follow General_Miau on YouTube or Twitch, or join his Discord. Featured creations are archived in the #mod-wall-of-fame channel on the Official Forts Discord.
