Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Q&A details post-launch plans and new modes
Development and team dynamics
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam keeps the series' 50v50 battles, chain of command, and communication focus, but the setting changes how those systems play. The NVA lean on tunnel networks and faction-specific logistics, while the US use helicopters for fast troop and supply movement. Because frontlines can shift far more quickly, clear communication is even more important—and enemy voice comms remain disabled to cut down on distraction and disruptive behaviour.
The game was rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 from the original Hell Let Loose codebase. The WW2 and Vietnam teams stay separate but share technology, design feedback, and historical research. Temporary WW2 assets appeared during development—the WW2 aircraft spotted in the Open Beta was a placeholder, not final content.
Developers say they play both games, join public matches, and run full 100-player internal playtests once or twice a week. Conquest and Domination will join returning Warfare and Offensive modes. Conquest has been tested before, but Vietnam's tunnels, helicopters, and asymmetrical factions change how it plays. Domination is described as the most chaotic, with dynamic objectives and no single frontline.
Not every idea survived development. Tree climbing was prototyped and cut because it encouraged hiding, though some cut ideas may return as the live service evolves. Memorable bugs included a flying WW2 jeep used as an early helicopter stand-in and a pilot model that grew larger than Thanh Hóa Bridge.
Maps, crossplay, and fixes
Several launch maps remain unshown. Beyond the Open Beta's Thanh Hóa Bridge and the tutorial's Vạn Tường, the team teased bamboo forests, industrial interiors, docks, fog-heavy Quảng Ngãi, areas inspired by the outskirts of Huế, and an open desert map.
Crossplay is planned across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, including cross-platform parties. Server owners can run full crossplay, PC-only, or console-only servers, and players can filter matchmaking to match their preference. The team also says server desync issues under heavy load—which made helicopters feel unresponsive—have been addressed since the Open Beta.
Roadmap and post-launch content
An early live-service roadmap teaser is expected around launch, with a full reveal shortly afterwards. Highlights from the Q&A:
- Battalions – in-game clan and community support with persistent groups, stats, shared progression, and unlocks. It's already months into development but has been pushed past launch for more work.
- ANZAC content – Australian and New Zealand uniforms and helmets, including the slouch hat, are planned for a post-launch update.
- Future factions – more ANZAC representation, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, South Korean forces, and other nations are being considered, with community interest shaping priorities.
- Vehicles – attack helicopters are highly likely but need suitable NVA counterplay. Amphibious APCs and expanded jeep roles, including mounted weapons and potential night-time spotlights, are also being explored.
- Weather – some scripted environmental changes already exist, like the sun shifting across Thanh Hóa Bridge, but a working rain system was postponed before launch. Monsoon conditions, night environments, flares, and floodlights are future ambitions, as are seasonal vegetation, tides, and water-level map variants.
- Licensed music – era-appropriate tracks are in licensing discussions after an internal test put a radio in a helicopter. If licensed music lands, players and streamers will be able to disable protected tracks locally to avoid copyright claims.
The team says the long-term goal is evolving core gameplay rather than just adding content. Performance, stability, quality-of-life improvements, and community feedback will shape what comes first after launch. The full Q&A video is here.
