Echoes of Elysium v0.20.0 Tempest update adds wet, windy survival

Loric Games has released the Tempest update for Echoes of Elysium — otherwise known as v0.20.0 — bringing rain and weather systems to the Early Access airship survival game. Rain now interacts directly with the ship and everything on it: wet ship pieces and stored items gain weight and drag, soaked stations can become inoperable, and the world takes on a moodier atmosphere.

Each biome has its own weather cycle and event rate. Ships gain a wetness status while raining and dry out once it stops. Wet parts slow movement and reduce crafting speed, and the encumbrance bar reflects the extra water weight. Build-menu tooltips now show how much cover ship pieces provide to stations like the invention desk or crafting table. Wind is also stronger and more variable, making sailing with or against it matter more; thrusters, sails, and weight have all been rebalanced around the new systems.

UI, audio, and quality-of-life improvements

The update also delivers player-requested polish:

  • Weight, fuel, flight-stat, and wetness indicators now surface the key details of each ship component.
  • Improved build-mode and station tooltips show details such as weight and speed.
  • The encumbrance bar previews weight gained or lost before building or destroying.
  • Scrap Metal piles no longer spawn underground.
  • Adaptive music and spatial SFX are tied more dynamically to the journey, with new weather SFX and more varied sound cues for airships, constructs, and player actions.

Launch events and next update

The team is hosting two Discord events on Friday, August 21, 2026: a developer stream at 3 PM ET with a v0.20.0 look and live Q&A, then a community game night at 9 PM ET with a raffle for $25 Steam gift cards. Join the Discord at discord.gg/loricgames.

Controller support is up next: v0.21.0 will add the highly requested feature with smooth UI/UX transitions, sharper glyph layouts, and an improved building experience. Feedback can be left at feedback.echoes.games, and bug reports at bugs.echoes.games.

Echoes of Elysium v0.20.0 overhauls UI for rain and weather systems

The latest Elysian Report for Echoes of Elysium breaks down the UI changes coming with the v0.20.0 Rain and Weather Systems update. The new interface makes weight, fuel, and wetness easier to read at a glance.

Weight bar gets new segments

The Vehicle HUD’s Weight Bar now shows exactly where your ship’s burden comes from. Three new segments break down the total:

  • Stored weight (orange) – logs, ore, and other large objects stored in pallets.
  • Construction preview (flashing) – weight that will be added or removed before you commit to building or destroying a part.
  • Wetness weight (blue) – added by rain soaking ship components.

A dedicated weight icon for airship pieces matches the HUD indicator in the lower right. The icons shown are temporary placeholders.

Fuel type icons clarified

Stations like the Galley and Smelter now display different icons per fuel: wood and other combustibles use one symbol, while Liftum fuel shows a battery/lightning bolt. This removes prior confusion over what each station accepts.

Wetness, protection, and station status

Components gradually get wet if left uncovered. Each cover material offers a different balance of weight and rain resistance:

  • Makeshift Wooden Cover – blocks about 50% of rain.
  • Cloth Hull – blocks about 80% of rain (lighter than makeshift or wood).
  • Wood Hull – 100% protection.

Stations now show status icons ranging from damp to soaked. Damp stations have partial cover but reduced performance; soaked stations are fully exposed. Wetness adds weight and slows crafting and production speeds. Multiple effects can stack – for example, a Galley with a -33% dampness debuff and a +100% charcoal fuel buff nets a final +67% production speed.

Expanded component stats and tooltips

Thrusters and other airship parts now display thrust speed, acceleration, weight limits, and an upcoming “Added Maximum Encumbrance” stat. Hover tooltips will explain each stat value. Thrusters previously had no assigned weight, but the rain system makes their individual weight matter as they can get wet and heavier.

These UI changes also lay the groundwork for future quality-of-life updates, controller support, and other planned systems, with further refinements based on player feedback.
